This drawing is a transcription (master study) of the Holy Family with St John the Baptist after the Caravaggio oil on canvas on loan to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.  

Pen and ink with watercolor on paper

12"x9" signed and inscribed by the artist.

Frame: Custom made wood frame in collaboration with Belinda Mclain (Master Solutions Inc.) with hand-rubbed patina, rag matte and ultra violet glazing.

Langley travel and studio research journals reveal his homage for master artists past and present in a ongoing practice exemplified in the drawing reproduced here that transcribes Caravaggio's oil painting of the Holy Family into the medium of pen and ink with watercolor made on location at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City where Langley was commissioned to paint an architectural mural in the recently dedicated Israel Sack Gallery of the American Wing in collaboration with Thomas Gordon Smith Architects.
